Pomeranians have got to be the cutest animals in the world! Don't believe me? Take a look at our pictures! Pomeranians originated from the spitz. They were much larger and usually all white they were then bred to the smaller pomeranian. The breed was made popular by Queen Elizabeth when she added them to her kennels.

Pomeranians are very friendly and good with children. Although they are small they are good pets indoors, and out. They have a very high sociability level with family members, strangers and other dogs. They rarely show aggression to family members, strangers, other dogs and even small animals such as cats. They have a very high eagerness to please family members and understand trainers. They often demand attention but respond well to loud noises, such as vaccuum cleaners. Pomeranians have a fairly high tolerance level for children and toddlers under the age of four. They have a very high tolerance level for children over the age of four. They have a very high level of barking to warn of intruders and a fairly high level of threathening or biting intruders; they are perfect family pets.

According to Stanley Coren in his publication "The Intelligence of Dogs" Pomeranians rank as the 23rd most intelligent breed, out of 79. Top place goes to Border Collie, bottom place to the Afghan Hound. I don't know on what basis this information was constructed, but Pomeranians are not really obedience dogs, and develop their own characters. This doesn't make them less intelligent, it is one their strong points.
